First Holy Communion
Preparing children to receive the Body and Blood of Christ
First Holy Communion is one of the most significant milestones in a Catholic child's faith journey — the moment they receive the Eucharist for the first time, entering into full sacramental communion with the Church. At Holy Spirit Parish, we walk alongside families in preparing their children for this sacred occasion, guided by the Archdiocese of Brisbane's sacramental programme.
The programme is a partnership between the parish and the home. Parents play a central role, working through lesson booklets with their children each week and attending the weekly parish session together.
Eligibility
Children in Year 4 or older are eligible to receive First Holy Communion. Your child must be a baptised Catholic, and Holy Spirit Parish must be your family's worshipping parish. Regular weekend Mass attendance is expected throughout the programme.
