27th Sunday in Ordinary Time
We Are God’s Vineyard
4 October 2026
Dear brothers and sisters,
Today, the readings remind us that we are God’s vineyard. God has given us many blessings, and He expects us to produce good fruits. It is possible to receive God’s blessings without producing the fruit He desires. We can receive grace but remain bitter. We can receive scripture but refuse to obey it. We can go to church but refuse to forgive. We can pray for blessings but refuse to become a blessing. We can say we love God but treat each other badly. God is not only interested in what we receive from Him but He is interested in what grows through us.
In the first reading, Isaiah speaks about a man who carefully planted and cared for his vineyard. He did everything possible for it to produce good grapes, but instead it produced wild grapes.
The vineyard represents God’s people. God cares for us, protects us, and gives us many blessings. In return, He expects us to live good and faithful lives.
In the Gospel, Jesus tells us about the tenants who were given a vineyard to take care of. When the owner sent his servants to collect the fruits, the tenants rejected and mistreated them. Finally, the owner sent his son, but they killed him.
The Gospel reminds us that everything we have comes from God. Our life, our families, our talents, our work, our homes and our opportunities are gifts from God. We are only stewards. One day, God will ask us: What fruits have you produced with what I gave you?
What are these fruits? They are love, kindness, forgiveness, honesty, generosity, prayer, patience and service to others.
Sometimes we can be like the tenants. We may receive many blessings from God but forget that they come from Him. We may use what God has given us only for ourselves.
St Paul gives us good advice in the second reading: do not be anxious, but bring everything to God in prayer with thanksgiving. When we pray and trust God, His peace will fill our hearts.
Therefore, let us ask ourselves today: Am I producing good fruits for God? Is my family seeing love in me? Are my neighbours experiencing kindness from me? Can people see Christ through my words and actions?
Let us remember that God has entrusted His vineyard to us. Let us take good care of it and produce fruits that will please Him.
May our lives become a beautiful vineyard where God finds love, peace, forgiveness and goodness.
